BROOKLYN, NY (February 20, 2025) – Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso announced an allocation totaling $132,000 in FY25 discretionary funding to be distributed to 83 NYCHA Tenant Associations (TAs) across the borough. The funding is allocated for general programming support, including family days, backpack giveaways, and other programs for NYCHA residents. Active Brooklyn NYCHA tenant associations were each awarded up to $3,000. The amount allocated to each development was based on each development’s population.
“NYCHA Tenant Associations are the lifeline of community at NYCHA developments. Our TA presidents organize incredible programming that supports residents and builds community, more often than not with very little funding. I am proud to provide support to Brooklyn’s NYCHA residents with this funding which gives a boost to TAs developing crucial programming,” said Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso. “Thank you to the TA presidents, TA members, and the NYCHA residents who help foster supportive communities in their developments!”
Details of the allocation were announced at an appreciation breakfast for TA presidents at Brooklyn Borough Hall and builds on Borough President Reynoso’s past support for NYCHA tenant associations and residents. In Fiscal Year 2024, Reynoso allocated $108,000 to 69 NYCHA TAs. This fiscal year’s allocation includes $24,000 in additional funding to 14 additional TAs.
Council Member Chris Banks said “As the Chair of the New York City Council’s Committee on Public Housing, and Council Member for Brooklyn’s 42nd Council District representing the communities of East New York, Canarsie, Brownsville, East Flatbush, and Remsen Village, home to 12 NYCHA Developments, I recognize the critical importance of helping the Tenant Associations for these developments build their capacity to serve and support their residents in many ways. This support from the office of the Brooklyn Borough President will further assist the NYCHA Tenant Associations across the borough to provide very important capacity and community building services and programs within each of these developments. I applaud Borough President Reynoso’s allocation to these associations and look forward to using my role as Chair of the Council’s Committee on Public Housing, to support capacity building efforts for Tenant Associations in Brooklyn, and the other boroughs.”
“Tenant Associations are pillars of each NYCHA community and serve as invaluable conduits between the Authority and the residents we serve,” said NYCHA Chief Executive Officer Lisa Bova-Hiatt. “We are so appreciative of Brooklyn Borough President Reynoso’s generous funding allocation, which will go a long way in aiding all 83 Tenant Associations across the borough, and for his continued support and advocacy for all of the Brooklynites who call NYCHA home.”
“On behalf of the thousands of public housing residents in Brooklyn West, we extend our heartfelt thanks for recognizing that we are an integral part of life in Brooklyn,” said NYCHA Brooklyn West Regional TA Tyree Stanback. “Your support and generosity have been truly inspirational, fostering inclusivity and providing meaningful support for us and our families. You and your office have exemplified true leadership, working tirelessly to ensure that we are all represented—because together, we are one Brooklyn!”
