Magnificent performers include Dr. ‘Satchmo’ Mannan on soprano saxophone, Craig Harris on trombone, Patience Higgins and Antonio Hart on alto saxophone, with special guest Bill Saxton on tenor saxophone.
When: Friday, September 20th, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
Where: Marcus Garvey Park, Richard Rogers Amphitheater, Fifth Avenue and West 124th, New York.
Why: Senator Cleare said, “This event was created to celebrate the incredible work of John Coltrane, pay tribute to his legacy, and bring jazz appreciation to our community. We have our world-class local performers bringing the gift of this original American-created music to the people. We want our community to participate and enjoy the festival which is always a remarkable and soul-stirring experience. Start your weekend off right and come on out to our 3rd John Coltrane Jazz Appreciation Day Festival!”
Dr. ‘Satchmo’ Mannan: “In the garden of the humanities and human music-power, the music of John Coltrane is a self-refreshing flower. It is a labor, a love of God, and a love of neighbor–expressed by gratitude and service. This is because it seeks at once to praise God and to raise to human consciousness via the power of a love supreme.”
