Starting July 1, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will begin sending text alerts from a new number: 872466 (which spells out USA-IMM for “U.S.A. Immigration”). The current number, 468-311 (GOV-311), will be discontinued.
Why This Matters
If you receive case updates or appointment reminders by text from USCIS, it’s important to recognize the new number to avoid mistaking official messages for spam. USCIS recommends saving 872466 in your contacts.
Who This Affects
Applicants who opt in for electronic notifications via Form G-1145 will receive text and email updates about their application status. These alerts include receipt numbers and instructions for checking your case online.
About Form G-1145
Form G-1145, E-Notification of Application/Petition Acceptance, is an optional form that allows applicants to receive real-time updates when USCIS accepts their petition. While it doesn’t provide any immigration benefits itself, it is often used alongside forms like the I-485 (Green Card application) for faster confirmation of receipt.
Additional Update
Earlier this month, USCIS also announced that all new permanent residency applications must include a renewed medical examination form. Previously, older medical forms were accepted indefinitely.
